Privacy Policy
RedLightFilter: night light, shown as Luna after installation, is developed by Akash Manmohan. It is a local screen-filter app for Android.
Data collection and sharing
Luna does not transmit app data off your device, sell data, or share data with the developer or third parties. It has no accounts, ads, analytics, payment SDK, or third-party data-collection SDK, and it requests no network permission. Purchases are handled by Google Play, not inside Luna.
Local app data
Luna stores filter modes, strength, dim level, schedules, shortcuts, haptic preferences, and consent choices on your device. If you choose per-app exceptions, Luna also stores the selected app package names. If you enter coordinates for a solar schedule, those coordinates are stored locally and used for calculations on your device. Luna does not request your device's location permission.
From version 0.2.7 (build 10), Luna disables Android backup and excludes its data from cloud backup and device transfer. Earlier versions allowed Android backup. Updating Luna does not claim to erase backups that Android may already hold; you can manage those through your device or Google account's backup controls.
Clear Luna's storage in Android Settings or uninstall the app to remove its local settings. Clearing storage resets your configuration and consent choices. No developer account or server-side deletion request is needed.
Permissions and device access
- Display over other apps: required to draw the coloured and dimming filter above other apps. This does not allow Luna to read screen contents.
- Foreground service: keeps a user-enabled filter running while other apps are open.
- Notifications: optional; provides an ongoing local control for pausing or turning off the filter.
- Start after reboot: restores an enabled filter locally after the device restarts.
- Usage access: optional and off by default; used for per-app exceptions by checking which app is in the foreground. Luna does not store an app-usage history or send this information off the device. Your selected exception app package names remain in local settings.
Optional Accessibility service
Luna Tap compatibility is optional and off by default. It uses Android's Accessibility service to display the filter as an accessibility overlay, so your own taps can reach the app underneath while the filter stays visible. Luna is a general screen-filter app, not a disability-focused accessibility tool, and its ordinary filter works without this service.
The service cannot retrieve screen content, receives no accessibility events, and does not record taps, perform gestures, filter keys, control magnification, or take screenshots. It does not collect or share data. Per-app exceptions use the separate Usage access described above, not Accessibility.
Luna shows a separate in-app explanation before asking you to continue to Android's Accessibility settings. You can choose Not now and keep using Luna. Enabling the service requires both your in-app consent and a separate Android Settings choice. You can turn it off at any time in Android Settings; Luna then uses its ordinary overlay.
Data safety
- No app data is transmitted off-device by Luna.
- No data is shared with third parties.
- No account is required.
- No advertising ID is used.
Current functionality
The app applies a coloured and extra-dim overlay, runs user-configured schedules locally, and offers local controls through its notification, Quick Settings tile, and home-screen widget. Android and other apps can restrict overlays on some surfaces. Visibility and touch behaviour can vary by device, app, and overlay mode.
Children's privacy
Luna does not transmit children's or adults' app data off the device. A parent or guardian can remove local settings by clearing Luna's storage or uninstalling the app.
